Discovery Attender automates the e-discovery process by searching, viewing and retrieving email and other types of electronic information. It performs real-time content searches that quickly locate information in common storage files, Exchange mailboxes and PST files.

Examine documents located in Exchange mailboxes/PST Files; Investigate content in most common file formats (.doc, .xls, .pdf and .zip); Locate information with customizable criteria such as keywords and date ranges; Identify content based on age, type, address, extension and wildcards; Search message subject, body and attachments; Target searches to specific users or groups; De-duplication of results based on user selected criteria; Copy files to a local repository for later review; Create custom reports

"Legal Discovery" - Tony Hess [May 17, 2007]
I do not use Discovery attender much, but when legal asks for an exhaustive search I would be up the creek without discovery attender. The product is spectacular for keyword searches and attachment searches. It puts very little load on our work stations and provides a very easy to read report and pst file with the results of the investigation. Even though it is not used that often it is well worth paying the annual renewal for those times legal wants something fast.
