MetaLAN™ Systems Management
time to take control
|
What is MetaLAN ?
MetaLAN is a software suite designed to reduce the time taken to support Windows network infrastructure and end users. Network administrators, helpdesk support staff and IT managers will find the tools and features they need to take control of the network infrastructure they are responsible for. MetaLAN is agentless, easy to use and all options are included. If you are wasting time managing your current systems management solution try MetaLAN and see the difference.

ProbeServer Database Service for MetaLAN.
Guide to installing MetaLAN with ProbeServer
MetaLAN ™ can run as a standalone application. However, installing ProbeServer will reduce and distribute the network load. If you have several support staff using MetaLAN the use of ProbeServer is recommended.
ProbeServer is a server side service that gives a central location for the collection and distribution of the network data. When running ProbeServer the "freshness" of the data is configurable.
Benefits over using MetaLAN in standalone mode:
- Reduced network load. ProbeServer will reduce and distribute the network load required for data collection. Without ProbeServer MetaLAN collects data in real time when requested. If several administrator/tech support staff are using MetaLAN, the same data may be collected numerous times over a short period of time.
- Centralized persistent data storage. ProbeServer offers a central location for collecting and distributing the data collected from the computers on your network. When running ProbeServer the freshness of the data is configurable and data is available for computers that are currently offline. The offline/online status is highlighted in MetaLAN along with the other information collected.
- Admin privileges not required by staff. MetaLAN users do not need administrative privileges on client computers to view the data collected from those computers. By default the everyone group has access to this data which is stored in the probe$ share on the computer running the ProbeServer Service. To restrict access to this data appropriate security may be applied to this share.
MetaLAN License Manager
License Manager is an add-on for MetaLAN that allows the user to easily monitor software license compliance on a network. License Manager requires ProbeServer to be installed on the network in order to collect license information.
License Manager tracks software installations by Licenses. Licenses are created in License Manager and then software titles are assigned against the license. The total installations are then tracked against the license.
Reports available:
- Computers by software title
- Users by software titles
- Installations by license
- Software titles by computer
- Software titles by user
